Landscape design for architecturally considered homes.
A refined landscape direction before construction
We design architecturally aligned outdoor spaces before construction begins, bringing clarity to layout, materiality and spatial intent so the exterior feels as resolved as the home itself.
A refined process for shaping the landscape before construction
Each stage is designed to bring clarity before construction and to craft a highly considered landscape that becomes a seamless extension of the architecture.
Design Process
01
Design Consultation
We begin by understanding the home, site and project ambitions, establishing a clear design direction from the outset.
02
Concept Design
The overarching landscape vision is developed through layout, materiality and spatial planning. We combine this with photo-realistic visualizations that communicate exactly how the design will integrate with the architecture.
03
Concept Development
Following the concept presentation, client feedback is thoughtfully integrated to further refine the design, resulting in a comprehensive design direction supported by plans, sections and elevations to communicate the intent.
Your consultation will be led by our Studio Director, who will bring design expertise and considered insight to your project.
During this session we explore the vision, practical requirements and aesthetic potential of your outdoor space, including lifestyle needs, functionality and project investment.
Note: Our studio maintains a limited project intake each quarter to ensure every commission is approached with the appropriate level of care, diligence and design focus.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Our studio designs carefully considered outdoor environments that respond to both the surrounding architecture and the natural landscape. This often includes the design of spatial elements such as terraces, pathways, pools and outdoor living areas, combined with planting strategies and material palettes.
Where appropriate, we also design custom landscape features and outdoor elements that complement and strengthen the overall design.
-
Yes. MIDI is an online landscape design studio working with clients internationally.
Our process has been developed specifically for remote collaboration. Using the site information you provide, including surveys, site plans, photos and measurements, our team creates a detailed 3D model of your property. This allows us to accurately map existing conditions such as levels, structures, vegetation and surrounding context.
We also analyse key factors including sunlight and shadow patterns to ensure the design responds appropriately to your site.
Once the digital model is established, we develop a fully considered landscape concept tailored to your property. Your design package is then delivered digitally, allowing you to share the plans and visualisations with contractors and proceed confidently into the construction phase.
Our online process allows us to deliver the same level of design clarity and detail as a traditional studio while working with clients anywhere in the world.

Once your final landscape concept package has been delivered, you can engage a qualified contractor in your local area to begin planning the construction phase.
Our design package is prepared to clearly communicate the overall vision, layout and planting strategy of your landscape. Contractors can use the drawings and visualisations to understand the design intent and prepare construction quotations.
Your contractor will then guide you through the next stages of the project, including construction planning, pricing and scheduling.
Depending on your location, certain elements of the project may require permit drawings, engineering documentation or council approval. These items must be prepared by appropriately licensed professionals within your local jurisdiction.
Your contractor or project team will advise if any of these documents are required and will coordinate the relevant consultants if needed.
If helpful, we can also assist by recommending experienced contractors and other specialists who can help bring the design to life.
-
The time required to complete a design depends on the scope and complexity of each individual project. For a straightforward mid sized project, the design process typically takes around 4-8 weeks from the initial consultation through to the final design documentation.
-
All you need to begin is an idea and a vision for your landscape.
The initial consultation is designed to understand your goals, explore possibilities for your site, and determine the best direction for the project.
Following the consultation, we will provide you with a clear list of information required before the concept design can begin. Depending on the property, this may include items such as a site survey, a complete photo set of the existing conditions, key site measurements, and any other relevant information available to you such as setbacks, easements, or site constraints.
If you do not yet have all of this information, that is completely fine. We will guide you through what is needed and how to obtain it so the design process can move forward smoothly.
-
Yes. Conceptual 3D visualisations are included as a standard part of our design process, allowing you to clearly experience and understand the proposed landscape before construction begins.
If required, a conceptual 3D model can be exported and sent to relevant contractors to help communicate the design intent.
